The Drillfield is an expansive, 1.5 acre park designed to bring the Hampton Roads community together. This green, social, and active space boasts a nature-filled field bookended by two hardscapes—a sculpture plaza and a pavilion stage plaza. The space has been purpose-built for block parties, live music concerts, and festivals with power and water built into the landscape to support food trucks and a bandshell outfitted with power to support lighting rigs and sound.

Tech Center is as much about belonging as it is about innovation. We’ve relentlessly pursued the dream of an intentional community built around values like wellness, collaboration, and innovation. The Drillfield is in the heart of Tech Center, providing a place where people can live, work, and play with like-minded individuals and make an impact where they are.
The sculpture, titled “The Starfinder,” was commissioned by W.M. Jordan in partnership with the Newport News Public Art Foundation, and was created by artist Owen Morrell. Starfinder reflects the city’s role as a center of shipbuilding, military and the aerospace industry and is an icon of nautical history with a nod to the astrolabe, an ancient navigational tool.
