Tech Center Research Park

A Vision 30 years in the Making

The visionary Tech Center Research Park is transforming Newport News that was brought to fruition through the collaboration of public and private entities. Tech Center Research Park is designed to facilitate creative collisions in every facet of life, whether at conference table or the yoga studio. With luxury apartments, a walkable village, and cutting-edge work space, the brightest minds have everything they need to live, work, and play and innovate.

The vision began over 30 years ago, when the city committed to developing a research park adjacent to Jefferson Lab Particle Accelerator to amplify opportunities for innovation and collaboration. The rest, as they say, is history.

In 1986, Funds for the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab were acquired. The City of Newport News determined that it would be beneficial to have a research park next to Jefferson Labs, one of the seventeen U.S. Department of Energy National Accelerator Facilities.

Marketplace at Tech Center, Venture Apartments, Research Park Buildings 700 and 800, and the Drillfield are open in Tech Center Research Park offering state-of-the-art dining, retail, manufacturing, research, and office space.

In the future, there will be a total of 10 buildings in the park, full of companies that disrupt the industry and collaborate to make great things happen.
